But the strong section in Uruguay for the National Direction of Industrial Property (MIEM dependence) is trademark registration. In 2009, 9.603 trademark registrations were applied, from which 7.623 were granted. Erik Olivera presented a patent application for what he considers his invention: the Audio Backpack. It is musical equipment that goes inside a backpack. He says “the motive of this invention was to create audio equipment with great sound that could be moved easily”. Erik says the initial idea for the invention was using the system motorbikes have, but then some ideas like “the backpack is ideal to take camping or create improvised parties” emerged and so he decided to change the system.
