Designing the future

The World Intellectual Property Day was celebrated on April 26th, basically because the World Intellectual Property Organization, an Agency of the UN was created on April 26th, 1970 with the purpose to encourage creativity and prompt the protection of Intellectual Property throughout the world.

This Day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2000. For each celebration WIPO chooses a phrase, the one for the year 2011 is "Designing the Future".

WIPO suggests all member countries, agencies, and anyone involved in Intellectual Property issues, that based on this phrase, specially picked for each anniversary, to encourage discussions on the matter, illustrations, and posters be specially developed as a form to prompt interest on the subject in the public and have a better communication therewith to disseminate knowledge and information on Intellectual Property in general.

"Designing the Future" also refers to the creation of "Designs" as the object and purpose of Intellectual Property protection, which is a task to be performed every single day and is applicable to all areas.

To celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day under such a premise, is a great way to seek the balance point of the pendulum; achieve an equitable space between the lack of protection and the abuse of rights; points which we should avoid at all costs, no matter what human activity or scope thereof we are talking about.
