MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's huge illegal software and music market is financing terrorism, Russia's science minister said Friday.

Market stalls and kiosks across Russia sell pirated software, compact discs and videos -- often selling films long before they open in Russian cinemas. Industry estimates say around three-quarters of the Russian market is illegal.

"In buying a pirated disc, a person is not only breaking the law of property and is financing not only crooks," Science Minister Andrei Fursenko told President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites).

He is financing "via the back door the economy which leads to terrorism."
