28.10.2005 - ICC Supports Anti-Counterfeiting Congress

LONDON - The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the world business organization, is giving full support to a Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy convened by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and Interpol in the French city of Lyon November 14-15.

According to ICC report, the Congress will further develop themes taken up by business leaders from some of the world’s top companies when they met in London at a conference called by ICC in September to take the fight against the theft of intellectual property to the highest international level. They met then under the banner “Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy” (BASCAP). Estimated at $600 billion, this criminal activity is threatening the knowledge-based economy of the 21st century.

At the Lyon Congress, ICC Secretary General Guy Sebban will join the Secretaries General of Interpol, Ron Noble, and of the WCO, Michel Danet, to debate how the problems of counterfeiting and piracy of intellectual property have developed in recent years.

ICC is already heavily engaged in the fight against countering through its London based Commercial Crime Services which operates its own Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau.
