19.10.2005 - The betfair.com British Invention Show Starts Oct. 20

LONDON - Ever dreamt of changing the weather? Or wished you owned an inflatable aeroplane? Almost anything is possible at ‘The betfair.com British Invention Show 2005’, which takes place at Alexandra Palace in London from the 20th -23rd October, according to a press release.

Over 350 mind-boggling inventions will be exhibited by inventors from over 20 countries at the ground-breaking show. As well as the ‘weather changing machine’ from Iran and the ‘inflatable aeroplane’ from Chigwell, highlights this year will include the life-saving ‘EVAC chute’ and ‘The Egg’ which promises ‘total mind, body and spirit relaxation’.

A panel of judges from the British Inventor’s Society will put ecological and social benefits to mankind, as well as design, ingenuity and originality to the test, culminating in the presentation of the coveted betfair.com British Invention of the Year Awards.

The show, now in its fifth year, is run by the British Invention Society and enjoys support from government partners including the UK Patent Office and UK Trade and Investment.

Having splashed their logo across televisions all summer as broadcast sponsor of the nail-biting Ashes series, Betfair have become title sponsors of this year’s event. The company has revolutionized the betting industry and has turned its focus to the pioneers of tomorrow, building on their own status as a cutting-edge, innovative business.

Andrew Black, co-founder of Betfair and owner of an Inventors’ Certificate said, ‘Betfair is proud to be sponsoring the British Invention Show. We believe it is a major opportunity for anyone with an invention worth showcasing, in the sense that they may sell their products, find a backer or simply benefit from the opportunity to speak with like-minded individuals. Betfair is a company which has challenged a long standing industry in ways which would never have evolved from the incumbents - we stand for change and progress and we are delighted to be associating our brand with a show which seeks to assist others to innovate in such diverse areas’.
