News of Intellectual Property21.07.2005 - West Country Businesses to Gain Insight into the Value of Managing their IP The UK Patent Office announced on Wednesday that it is holding a free “What is the Key?” campaign for West Country businesses on August 2, to help entrepreneurs understand why knowledge of intellectual property (IP) is essential to the progress of their business. According to a press release by the office, the events follow on from Patent Office research which found that more than one third of business owners do not understand that IP is important and just over a quarter recognize it as significant but do not know how to start managing it. The West Country event is being held at The Cleve Hotel and Country Club in Somerset. Delegates will learn how management of IP is crucial to growing enterprises. The seminar is run in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents and the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys for the “What is the Key?” campaign and is being supported by Business Link Somerset. Entrepreneurs will learn the latest about patents, trademarks, copyright and design registrations and how they can build their business. Director of Trademarks and Designs at the Patent Office Robin Webb said, "Business owners and directors should always remember that all businesses, no matter what their trade is, have intellectual property. When it is managed well, it adds value to a business but if it is neglected it can create problems. Good intellectual property management makes your business an attractive proposition to investors." Events Coordinator at Business Link Somerset, Becky Durham said: "We are delighted to be collaborating with the Patent Office and IP professionals on this campaign.
