08.07.2005 - AU Optronics licenses Sharp LCD tech Major Taiwanese LCD panel maker AU Optronics has struck a cross licence deal with Sharp lasting until 2010.
Japanese firm Sharp is a major owner of intellectual property on LCD technology, and the agreement will last until mid-2010.
The deal allows Sharp to use AU Optronic patents and vice versa. We reported recently that AUO had brokered a deal with IBM over 170 LCD patents.
Meanwhile, AU Optronics reported its monthly results yesterday which showed that sales had crept ahead compared to the same month last year.
It has changed its product mix to offer fewer small LCD panels, such as those used for notebooks and mobile phones, in favour of screens for TVs and high end monitors.
